Back in 2009, one of the directors of Red Army Media, Darren Lamb, with a number of friends, began hiring a coach so they could travel to United’s away games. They soon realized that arranging their own transport was a cost effective solution to travel to away games. This allowed them to travel with a select circle of friends in a great environment. They were soon inundated by a number of United fans from around the North-west of England, who wanted to join them.

Welcome to Manchester
Manchester United plays at Old Trafford, which is located about 3.5 km from the center of the city. Manchester is one of England’s biggest cities. It has an airport that is serviced by international and domestic flights; it is part of the country’s rail network; and buses from all over the UK arrive in the city on a daily basis. With two Premiership teams in the city and a couple others located in nearby Liverpool, Manchester can be a great base if you want to check out a number of English Premier League venues.
By Air
Manchester International Airport (15 km from stadium) is the largest airport in England outside of London. SkyEurope, Jet2.com, Flybe and other budget airlines fly to Manchester from London and from destinations throughout Europe, making it one of the more affordable places to fly in England.
Airfare to Manchester will be the cheapest on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday. Mondays are popular with business travelers and weekends are key dates for holidaymakers wanting the longest trips possible – avoid these dates. Consider traveling on a lesser-known carrier. British Airways is the national airline. However, Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa, Aer Lingus and other airlines also stop in Manchester.
The most expensive air tickets to Manchester are found during peak holiday travel times, such as the summer Eurail season. Also be aware of national events or festivals, which can also cause ticket prices to rise.
You can also fly to Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport, which is also the home of many budget airlines and is less than an hour away from Manchester.
By Train
Manchester is a hub of train travel in England. There are frequent trains between London and Manchester, as well as between Liverpool and cities to the north. If you do plan on going by train in England, consider purchasing a BritRail Pass. It can save you time and money. Train travel in England can be expensive.
To get to Old Trafford from the central Manchester Piccadilly station, take a local metrolink train and get off at the “Old Trafford” station. Overland trains from Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Oxford Road stop on match days at Old Trafford football ground. (Station halt)
Bus:
There are numerous buses to Manchester from London, Liverpool, Newcastle and other large cities in England. The local bus numbers 252-257 plus 17, 114 and 236 run from the city center’s Manchester Piccadilly to Old Trafford.
