Meaning of the 3 stars on City’s badge revealed!

After winning the League in 1968, They then won the FA Cup on 26/04/69, and finished the. League in 13th, 27 points behind Leeds. They were mathematically out of the title race by 10/03/69, but still made the effort to get a photo taken before the league came asking for the trophy back, which was when Leeds were un-catchable on 28/04/69.

Maybe this is the mystery unsolved of what those 3 stars mean on the club badge?
